Story: In 1986 Al Simmons and Chapel was trying to do some good in their neighborhood, beating the gangs in the area. While doing this they were recruited for Operation: Knightstrike by Battlestone [7].

While being in Knightstrike he underwent a series of chemical injections to highten his physical abilities. As a mean to control rogue agents, the injections were laced with HIV-virus which could be activated upon command. During his time in Knightstrike he was ordered to kill Al Simmons by the director Jason Wynn [13]. This he carried out on a mission in Botswana in 1987 [8-9] (Later revised to 1989 [6]). This was to be his last assignment in Knightstrike.

After Knightstrike Chapel joined Youngblood. During this time Jason Wynn contacted Chapel for another job, which he declined [14]. Wynn promptly told both Chapel and Youngblood of the injections [15]. Due to his promiscous nature, Chapel could not be in a high profile organization like Youngblood and was transferred to Bloodstrike [1].

In Bloodstrike Chapel was made field leader, which gave a lot of troubles with the original team. Along with the AIDS, nightmares from his past and general weirdness in the Bloodstrike organization, made him quit after the rest of the Bloodstrike team was destroyed by Quantum [2].

Having had enough of it all he set out to get revenge on Jason Wynn and Al Simmons [10]. He read the files Jason Wynn had on Spawn and reasoned that if Al Simmons could die and come back by striking a deal with the Malebolgia, so could he. Subsequently he killed himself right before Spawn [11].

Contrary to his plans Chapel did not become a spawn. Instead he became a horseman of the apocalypse and grew into Lord Chapel who became the leader of Hell [16].

After he came back, Chapel drifted around. After the experience of being a woman [3] when Diabolique changed the gender of the men she had met [12], he felt empty inside and decided to get back at Spawn. At the same time Lord Chapel broke loose from his prison at Mt. St. Helens and Chapel and Spawn ended up cooperating on fighting Lord Chapel instead of fighting. When Lord Chapel was defeated Chapel and Spawn went their separate ways [4,5].

Skills & abilities: Chapel is a trained assassin with extensive knowledge on guerrilla warfare and hand-to-hand combat. He has augmented strength from the injections he took while being part of Operation: Knightstrike [13].
Equipment: Preferred weapon is a modified machine gun with a 40 mm grenade launcher. For transportation he has a special hyper-cycle outfitted with various weapons.

Background notes: The character Chapel was rather famous in the beginning. There were several reasons for that. He was the one who killed Al Simmons who became Spawn. Spawn being one of the best selling comics in the nineties gave Chapel a lot of exposure. At the same time he was a ruthless killer, a type of character made popular by the Punisher from Marvel.

Chapel appeared in the Spawn Animated Series but when Todd McFarlane made Spawn as a live-action film, Chapel was changed into Jessica Priest a character owned by McFarlane. There was supposed to be a Youngblood Animated Series featuring Chapel as one of the characters, but the project only got as far as a small test film.
