During The Great War he met Theodore Marley Brooks. Before a ceremony Brooks taught Monk a few French words to compliment a visiting general. The words were actually insulting obscenities which landed Monk in the brig. When he got out, Monk stole a truckload of pigs and framed Brooks for the crime, a frame-up that Brooks could never prove and which gave him his nickname Ham. Monk loves to do things to mock Ham, from dressing in obnoxious looking clothes to naming his pet pig Habeas Corpus. Equipment: Monk carries assorted chemicals and hardware provided by Doc Savage like a bulletproof west and most notably a gun with mercy bullets.
