Story: Calvin's dad is a slightly sarcastic working stiff and loving father.
Continuity: Calvin and Hobbes Company: Universal Press Syndicate First app.: Nov. 18, 1985 Creator(s): Bill Watterson Country of origin: USA
Background notes: Unlike most popular characters Calvin's parents were never given a name. They were mom, dad, honey, sweetheart etc. but no real names. Calvin's dad is part self-portrait and part satire of Watterson's own father. Any strip about how suffering "builds character" is usually a verbatim transcript of Watterson's dad's explanations for why they were all freezing, exhausted, hungry and lost on camping trips.
